The American Petroleum Institute says that the EPA's water testing at a Wyoming natural gas drilling site raises concerns about the agency's national study on hydraulic fracturing. The API claims that the testing used too small a sample size to determine whether fracking contributed to groundwater contamination. The EPA has replied that a study by the US Geological Survey is generally consistent with its own. That study did invalidate one of EPA's two monitoring wells for yielding too small of a water sample. A new mapping tool built by MIT's Sustainable Design lab and Modern Development Studio, a Boston design firm, pinpoints the solar potential of every rooftop space in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The modeling includes figures on the financial cost, payback period, and carbon emissions reduction. The tool will guide the placement of solar panels on Cambridge rooftops for maximum efficiency and effect.
