Google and the Grand River Dam Authority have announced an agreement for GRDA to supply the Internet search company's data center in Oklahoma with 48 megawatts of wind energy. It is the first time Google has contracted directly with a utility provider to increase its renewable energy consumption, and GRDA's first wind energy power purchase agreement. Encana is one of only 10 companies named to the Dow Jones Industrial North American Index from 49 oil and gas sector companies that were considered for the list. Encana scored 17 percent higher than the industry average. The DJ Sustainability North America Index represents the top 20 percent of the largest North American companies on the DJ Global Total Stock Market Index based on long-term economic, environmental, and social criteria. The sixth annual GridWeek starts today in Washington, DC Gridweek will host global electric industry stakeholders to explore the Smart Grid's impact on the economy, utility infrastructure, consumers, and the environment. Discussion will outline Smart Grid values, such as empowered energy customers, renewable integration, and greater energy reliability as they affect utility business issues and opportunities.
