www.ntv.co.ke The Lokichoggio Airport has now gone green and upgraded its generator to solar power, shifting from the usual diesel power. The new system is expected to reduce the running costs of the airport, since the diesel-powered generator will only be used for back-up purposes. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority says the airport needs at least 12 hours constant supply of electricity, but the diesel generator has often times failed, paralyzing operations. Also, the rising cost of petroleum products renders the running cost of the generator expensive. It is for this reason that the authority issued a tender last year for supply of the solar panels, which Chloride Exide won. The airport now has 150 panels of 150 watts each.
