How solar energy came to rule the world. After Fukushima, suddenly 90% of the people in Japan realized that they loved solar and had no use for nukes. It was a solar awakening. Fortunately, there was one anti-nuke activist in a position of power to do something. Naoto Kan did something really big. Kan wrote and passed a new FEED IN tariff law that gave homeowners in Japan the power to start their own solar power company to harvest & sell solar energy into the national grid. It was a 20 year guarantee. The law requires the utilities who own & control the grid, to pay those who feed solar energy into the grid twice the market rate they are selling the power for, as a enticement to encourage homeowners to invest in solar and to harvest solar energy. One, because the world is running out of oil, uranium, gas & coal. Two because solar energy is clean, safe, renewable, unlimited and necessary, while oil, gas, coal & nuclear energy are toxic and bad for the air & water. The world will be out of oil in 30 years. Three because solar is unlimited and fossil fuels are limited,... and we are running out. For each $ million invested in solar, we create 1800 jobs, while the same $ million invested in nuclear creates only 400 jobs. The social costs caused by nuclear make it the most expensive type of energy. That is why no insurance company will insure nukes. "Too cheap to meter" was what the nuclear corporations promised.
