Here's a fantastic example of a community event that brings together local businesses, state agencies...and kids. Fort Pierce, Florida annually hosts "The Extreme Energy Education Event" (or "EX3") a program where teams of middle school kids design and build go-karts that run on alternative schools, then compete their go-karts in time trials. The Treasure Cost Research Park started the program to encourage practical learning in math, science, and engineering, and now everybody helps out by mentoring, funding, and running this very fun event.
