renewable energy - Alaskan Natural Gas; AT&T to Install Fuel Cells; Colorado Hydroelectric Upgrade- Energy Min 10/10/12

A consortium including Exxon Mobil, Conoco Phillips, and BP plans to export natural gas from Alaska's North Slope in a project that is estimated to cost $65 billion. The effort is expected to impact US construction and manufacturing companies that would supply steel and other materials for an 800-mile pipeline and the plant that would convert the gas into liquid for export on tankers. AT&T is planning to install 9.6 megawatt of fuel cell power from Bloom Energy, a clean energy provider. Bloom Boxes contained stacked fuel cells that convert air and natural gas into electricity through a clean electrochemical process. With the latest addition, AT& T will have 17.1 megawatts of Bloom Energy Servers that power 28 sites in California and Connecticut. Boulder, Colorado's hydroelectric plant has received a $5 million upgrade. Originally built in 1910, the Boulder Canyon facility installed a new turbine and generator. The project was funded by the US Department of Energy and city water utility funds. For more information on these and other stories, go to www.csrminute.com.
