If you had tried to warn people about Fukushima back in the 1950′s as many countries were implementing nuclear reactors you would have been laughed at. Nuclear power was going to make it possible for each of us to have a flying car and robot slave. It would make electricity so cheap to make that metering it not be cost effective. Just 20 years ago if you had warned of brain tumors and cell damage due to cellular telephones you would have been laughed at. Cell phones have been adopted by more people faster than any other technology released. Today many people wonder why anyone would have a hard wired land line telephone when cellular technology can deliver so much more convenience and flexibility. With each technological advancement, there are consequences. Today we giggle about the buggy whip manufacturers who failed when the automobile became predominant. Some wonder if the automobile would ever have been allowed to exist if the buggy whip manufacturers had strong lobbies on Capitol Hill. Tonight we will consider this scenario. What might be the unintended consequences should some unforeseen exotic energy technology become readily available. What might be the economic and social impact of such an event.
