Solar Electricity - US Sunlight's Solar Attic Fan and Controller Win Best Sustainable Product Award; US Treasury Bui

The Solar Attic Fan and the Solar Controller made by US Sunlight Corp have been named the Best Sustainable Product of 2011 by Builder News magazine. Unlike traditional solar ventilation which is limited to the hours of available sunlight and is unable to operate at night or on cloudy days, US Sunlight's Solar Attic Fan uses house electricity after sunset or when solar power is not available to provide continuous ventilation. The Solar Controller allows homeowners to monitor the fan's operating status, and attic temperature and humidity from a remote LED screen. The US Treasury Building, a National Historic Landmark, has been awarded Gold Certification from LEED, the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program of the US Green Building Council. To achieve LEED Gold, the Treasury Department installed low-flow faucets, waterless urinals, lighting sensors, and high-efficiency water heaters. In addition, increased use was made of natural day lighting and a green procurement program for materials, equipment, and systems was established. The two-block long structure, built in the 19th century, is the oldest building in the world to receive LEED certification. For more information on these and other stories, go to thecsrminute.com
