Professor David Faiman the director of Israel's National Solar Energy Center at Sde Boker calls on the government to invest in solar energy infrastructure projects as an alternative energy source. He believes Israel is far from reaching its goal of 10 percent renewable energy by 2020 saying the recent inauguration of a 5 megawatt solar field at Kibbutz Ketura is a drop in the ocean. In order to minimize the economic and environmental cost of producing solar power Faiman has a solution -- to use curved solar panels. His technology has been exported to South Korea and plans are underway to ship panels to Italy and China he says. According to Faiman the panels promise higher energy yields, reduce land use, cause less environmental damage and are lower in cost for each unit.
