home wind generator - Clipper's First-Year Sales Effort for New 2.5 MW Liberty Wind Turbine Results in 5,600 MW of Firm and Contingent Orders Through 2011

Carpinteria, Calif. (PRWEB) June 4, 2007

Clipper Windpower Plc today announced that commercial sales efforts kicked-off in June 2006 for its new Liberty wind turbine, and publicly announced over the course of the past 12 months, account for more than 5,600 MW (2,240 units) of firm and contingent orders for deliveries beginning in 2007 through 2011.

"We're delighted with the response and interest we're continuing to receive from both existing industry customers and new customers, including additional Fortune 500 companies that are increasingly entering the wind energy industry," said Robert H. Gates, Clipper's Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations. "We see the interest in our advanced technologies, as well as the substantial increase in industry-wide wind turbine sales, as an indication of the world's growing confidence in the environmental and energy security benefits that can be achieved by increasing wind energy's contribution to the global energy mix."

"Once built, these potential 5,600 MW of wind energy could supply the annual electricity needs of more than 1.6 million average American homes and offset upwards of 10 million tons of carbon dioxide from being placed into our atmosphere each year," he added.

The Liberty Series wind turbines, designed to address current industry gearbox and other component issues, mitigates gearbox stresses through Clipper's patented Quantum DriveTM Distributed Generation Power-train. The Clipper units also offer proprietary variable speed operation in a more efficient manner than today's standard wind turbines. Clipper's permanent magnet generator technology delivers higher powertrain efficiency, and a 2-ton on-board crane simplifies maintenance and significantly reduces associated costs. The 2.5 MW Liberty turbine installation can be accomplished with a crane sized for most commercial 1.5 MW units. At a 2.5 MW capacity, the Liberty machine is the largest wind turbine built in the United States.
