Solar Electricity - Parliament votes on SA Solar Feed-in Scheme - Channel 7 News, 24/6/11




MEDIA RELEASE 23/6/11 "Greens improve SA solar feed-in bonus scheme" After a three year campaign, the Greens have today achieved 2 key objectives in improving the solar panel feed-in scheme in State Parliament. The Greens forced the Government to back down from their promise to end the scheme to all new entrants from 1st October. The scheme will now remain open for a further 2 years, although at a lower rate. The Greens also forced the Government to 'Stop the Great Solar Rip-off' by forcing electricity companies to pay a 'fair and reasonable price' for the electricity that they get from solar households and then on-sell to other customers. These amendments were a direct result of Greens pressure in Parliament and in the community over the last 3 years. Through the Parliamentary debate the Greens were also instrumental in ensuring that the total cost of the solar scheme was lower than the Government's original Bill. Keeping a lid on the cost of the scheme will lower electricity prices for all South Australians. Sadly, both the Government and Opposition refused to support an even better scheme put forward by the Greens which would have delivered more solar panels on South Australian roofs at a cheaper cost. "The solar feed-in scheme has been an important driver for clean, green solar power in South Australia," said Greens MLC Mark Parnell.
