Residential Wind Power - Too Long Overlooked: Big Business for Small Wind Turbines; Go Green Energy White Paper Details Emerging Opportunities

Santa Cruz, CA (PRWEB) January 14, 2008

When someone mentions "wind energy," what usually come to mind are the fields of giant utility-grade wind turbines located off the coasts of many countries and on mountain tops everywhere, and small residential-grade windmill-style turbines designed for personal use.

Both markets are experiencing rapid growth as the cost of fossil-based energy increases and competition for the raw supply of world oil becomes more intense. But, says Alternative Energy Consultant Dennis A. Murray, founder and lead consultant of Go Green Energy LLC, the largest potential beneficiary of wind turbines - the industrial sector - has largely been overlooked.

"That is about to change with the development of a new class of Vertical Axis Wind Turbines," Murray said. "Compact and tubular in shape, these new VAWT designs can produce up to 10KW in normal wind environments and even in exceptionally high wind conditions where all other turbines fail. Their rugged design and unique form factor allows them to go where conventional wind turbines cannot."

A white paper authored by Murray describing these new turbines and their many commercial markets is now available at http://www.gogreenenergyllc.com.

Shaped like an open-sided oil drum on a short pole, these new VAWT designs rotate silently, catch the wind from any direction, present no danger to people, animals or the environment, and produce up to 10 KW of clean, renewable energy in Class 3 wind. To reduce or eliminate the need for service the designs have as few as two moving parts and uniquely, they can operate vertically as well as horizontally depending on the application.

"It's the combination of a compact, cylindrical form factor, high output, and ruggedness that gives this class of wind turbines a decisive advantage in the developing industrial sector of the wind energy market," Murray said.

Some of the many applications for these vertical, "cylindrical" turbines include:

    Tall Bridge Lighting Systems
    Oil Platform Auxiliary Power
Auxiliary and Emergency Power for Ships
    Communications Towers and Control Sheds

All of these applications are located in high wind areas and each is subject to physical restrictions that prohibit the use of conventional 3-bladed turbines. And, each represents an enormous opportunity for the small wind industry, according to Murray.

Windham, NH

Windham, NH (PRWEB) January 21, 2009

The Windham Initiative for Renewable Energy (WIRE) begins fundraising for a Solar, Wind, and Weather Monitoring Station at the new Windham High School to open in September of 2009.

After months of research, meetings with experts, and visits to similar programs throughout New England to determine the best system to install that would provide students the broadest range of exposure to various renewable energy systems available on the market today, the committee unanimously agreed upon a combination of various small to medium sized wind turbines, different photovoltaic solar arrays, and a weather monitoring station.

"We are very excited by this opportunity for our town to take a first step toward educating the next generation of consumers, high school students, about the benefits of renewable energy," noted WIRE Chairman Alan Carpenter. "The renewable energy industry will become very important to our country's push for energy independence in the coming years, and we want to help our students get a head start for potential careers in this area."

"This comprehensive system will help plant the seed of excitement among the students about renewable energy and will spread that knowledge and excitement among friends and family. It will also give Windham High students and extra competitive edge when applying to colleges for engineering programs focused on renewable energy," noted Mary Fries, Dean of Mathematics, Science, and Technology for the new Windham High School and a member of the WIRE committee. "Additionally, we hope to make the data from these systems available on the Internet, so interested Windham residents can see how weather in our area impacts the various systems," added Ms. Fries.

Committee member, Bill Hutchings, will be spearheading the effort to secure corporate donations. "There are many corporations that have expressed interest in the WIRE program. There are a number of engineering companies in the area already looking for bright young students coming out of local colleges and universities with renewable energy education," said Hutchings. "They are very excited about our forward thinking with regard to not only getting our students excited about renewable energy but also setting them up for what is already a rapidly expanding employment market."

The WIRE committee is looking to raise $100,000 to install the minimum configuration. Funds in excess of $100,000 will expand the kinds, number of systems, monitoring, and educational aids that can be purchased and implemented.

Small and large, private, tax-deductible donations, in association with the Windham Endowment for Community Advancement, are welcome and can be made using Paypal (no Paypal account is required) via the "Contributions" page of the Wire-NH website. No taxpayer funds will be utilized.

Windham Initiative for Renewable Energy (WIRE) is a local organization whose mission is to inspire our citizens and educate our students on the benefits of renewable energy. WIRE is committed to raising awareness of environmental issues and ensuring our country's energy independence. WIRE challenges government and businesses to follow Windham's lead in promoting "green" policies and installing renewable energy systems in our community.

Solar Electricity - Solar Electricity Goes To Camp; Camp Donor Reduces Non-Profit’s Electric Bills and Generates Huge Tax Advantages with Solar Power

Ojai, CA (PRWEB) May 5, 2006

Within the beautiful hills of Ojai, CA rests Camp Ramah, a non-profit Jewish camp for children. This camp features wonderful family activities on a year-round basis with special attention to summer fun and children’s events. And now there’s a new attraction in the camp … a solar electrical system that will reduce the camp’s electric bill by $4,000.00 per month. This new project, designed and installed by Solar Electrical Systems of Westlake Village, CA, keeps alive the characteristics Camp Ramah tries to instill in its campers: self-sufficiency, self-reliability and environmental awareness.

While the heart of Camp Ramah is the camp experience, the fact remains that Camp Ramah is also a business, with economic and social responsibilities. Thus, when a major constituent approached the Camp earlier this year with a six-figure capital donation, the donor and camp directors targeted the funds for a solar electrical system. A solar electrical system would not only reduce camp electrical expenditures, but also generate huge depreciation and tax advantages for the donor down the line.

Immediately, Camp Ramah contracted with Solar Electrical Systems of Westlake Village, CA to design and install three different commercial solar power projects. The first project, already completed, consists of approximately 264 solar panels installed on the camp’s three-sided cafeteria building. An additional 32 solar panels with a non-penetrating mount system were installed on the adjacent bakery. Each module is 330W commercial grade fire proof. The collective solar panels make up a 90 kW commercial system that was retrofitted for the building. The second project is planned for this fall.

According to Greg Johanson, President of Solar Electrical Systems, "It has been a pleasure working with Camp Ramah’s staff. SES has learned first-hand how we can transfer a non-profit’s depreciation and tax advantages into a useful tax benefit for gift donors, making it a win-win situation. Actually, the Camp Ramah experience may generate federal legislation through Senator Leonard E. Burman to modify existing tax law to help other non-profits manage their depreciation and tax credits. I can't think of anything better than bringing the new age of commercial solar power to other non-profits, as well as to the youth and strong community of this great organization. I think it should be a micro-economic example for the world to follow.”

The camp’s electric bill has now been offset by 30% through a detailed cost analysis and innovative tax advantages. Further, the depreciation of the buildings involved has been maximized with the addition of the solar panels. Solar Electrical Systems was referred to Camp Ramah by Wally Marks of Helms Bakery in Culver City, CA. Marks had previously received a 150kW system from Solar Electrical Systems.

So how does solar power work? Commercial solar power is produced when silicon wafers laminated under non-reflective glass collect photons from the sun, which are converted into DC electrical power. This power then flows to an inverter which converts and transforms it into usable voltage and AC electrical power. In some cases, solar electrical systems have the power to spin electric meters backward, which result in credits from a primary electric provider.

Solar Electrical Systems (General & Electrical B1, C10, License Number 575211) has been working with general contractors, builders, architects and owners to design and install solar electrical systems for commercial, non-profit, residential, and home-based business properties in California and the Los Angeles area since 1978. Solar Electrical Systems was rated by the California Energy Commission as the “2001 Best Photovoltaic Installer” and rated the “2005 Highest Percentage Performance of Commercially Installed Systems in Southern California” by a local utility from their base in Los Angeles. With 25 years of experience, five times more than any competitor in the industry, Solar Electrical Systems is the world's oldest licensed, full-service, 100% photovoltaic contractor with over 500 residential and 100 commercial photovoltaic installations. backyard wind generator - A "Ham-tastic" New Children's Book by Entrepreneur and Breast Cancer Survivor Urges Children to "Treasure Your Youth"™

Denver, CO and Hebron, CT (PRWEB) September 15, 2007

Concerned with the grim statistics regarding the health and sedentary lifestyle of America's children, author, entrepreneur, outdoor enthusiast, and breast cancer survivor Donna Raheb has created a story that encourages children to get out, explore life, and to "Treasure Your Youth."™ The Adventures of Henrietta Ham: Meet Henrietta is a quirky tale of two little girls who accidentally fall down a chute at a canning facility and wind up as canned hams.

It is no secret that America's children are at risk because of their sedentary lifestyles and poor eating habits. According to the New York Times, "For the first time in two centuries, the current generation of children in America may have shorter life expectancies than their parents" (March 17, 2005). Author Donna Raheb, trying to find a way to help reverse this trend, has created a new picture book character, Henrietta Ham. Henrietta and her best friend Tanya inspire young children to get out of the house and explore the outdoors in The Adventures of Henrietta Ham: Meet Henrietta.

What makes this book unique is that Henrietta and Tanya are hams. Yes, you read that right. Hams.

Through a bizarre accident, these seven-year-old little girls fall into the chutes at a canned ham factory and are pressed into canned hams. Fortunately for all concerned, Henrietta's parents purchase two cans of ham at the end of the tour--the two that hold Henrietta and Tanya. But what's to happen to the girls when they are taken to the house? Will Momma be cooking them for dinner? Here's where the real adventure begins:

Suddenly, one of the hams in the pan begins to jiggle and jumps to her feet. She calls out, "Henrietta!" as she nudges the other ham.
Wiggling to get free, Henrietta exclaims, "Tanya, look at all the fruits stuck to you!"
Tanya plucks off a cherry and pops it into her mouth. "Mmm, tasty." Then Tanya says, "You look like one of those hams that comes in a can! We don't look human anymore!"
Momma Terri, hearing the commotion, starts after the jiggling and wiggling hams in the pan.
"Run!" cries Henrietta.
"Before we get cooked for dinner!" shouts Tanya…

After escaping the house, Henrietta and Tanya forget their worries and find themselves exploring the wilderness in their own backyard. The Adventures of Henrietta Ham: Meet Henrietta, the first book of what promises to be a popular new series, provides children with an outlet for good, clean, and informative fun, while inspiring a healthy trend back to outdoor adventure.

Alternative Energy - Alternative fuel government cant tax and wont support, water

Hydrogen is high in energy, yet an engine that burns pure hydrogen produces almost no pollution. NASA has used liquid hydrogen since the 1970s to propel the space shuttle and other rockets into orbit. Hydrogen fuel cells power the shuttle's electrical systems, producing a clean byproduct - pure water, which the crew drinks. A fuel cell combines hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity, heat, and water. Fuel cells are often compared to batteries. Both convert the energy produced by a chemical reaction into usable electric power. However, the fuel cell will produce electricity as long as fuel (hydrogen) is supplied, never losing its charge. Fuel cells are a promising technology for use as a source of heat and electricity for buildings, and as an electrical power source for electric motors propelling vehicles. Fuel cells operate best on pure hydrogen. But fuels like natural gas, methanol, or even gasoline can be reformed to produce the hydrogen required for fuel cells. Some fuel cells even can be fueled directly with methanol, without using a reformer. In the future, hydrogen could also join electricity as an important energy carrier. An energy carrier moves and delivers energy in a usable form to consumers. Renewable energy sources, like the sun and wind, can't produce energy all the time. But they could, for example, produce electric energy and hydrogen, which can be stored until it's needed. Hydrogen can also be transported (like electricity) to locations where it is ...
